Melbourne Heart are said to be on the verge of signing Qantas Socceroos captain Lucas Neill for the rest of the Hyundai A-League season.
The veteran defender reportedly met Heart management this morning and is close to agreeing terms. The signature would be a huge boost to Heart's finals hopes.
Neill, who has been without a club since parting ways with UAE club Al-Wasl last month, is said to have a number of clubs interested in his signature, with Brisbane Roar also in the hunt for a defensive cover, after skipper Matt Smith was ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.
Roar-s overnight AFC Champions League loss to Buriram United, however, could count against them.
