Round 11 of the Westfield W-League threw up some incredible action and stunning upsets, with a number of Westfield Matildas stars catching the eye with some superb performances.
Here’s a wrap of how some of Australia’s best performed over the weekend.
LISA DE VANNA
Sydney FC have now jumped to second after a convincing win away to Perth Glory. De Vanna’s recent form has helped the Sky Blue to six wins in their last seven matches.
Curling a sweet shot past the Glory keeper, her opening goal lead Sydney to a 2-0 win. De Vanna caused all types of problems for the Glory back four, taking them two points off league leaders, Brisbane Roar, and almost securing them for a home finals birth.
MICHELLE HEYMAN
In her 100th game in the Westfield W-League, Heyman stepped up and broke the deadlock with 20 minutes to go, securing all three points for Canberra United.
Heyman linked up with fellow Westfield Matildas Ashleigh Sykes and Ellie Carpenter and made no mistake with the finish. The win is Canberra’s second in a row, leaving them unbeaten so far in 2018.
LAURA ALLEWAY
Victory secured all three points in a thrilling Melbourne Derby. The 2-1 win was thanks in part to a strong defensive display by Alleway.
She controlled proceedings in the centre of defence, allowing Victory to absorb pressure and look dangerous on the counter-attack. The marshalling of her troops effectively paid off as the Victory came from behind in an upset win.
CHLOE LOGARZO
Logarzo was on the score sheet for the Sky Blues in an effective performance in the west. The attacking midfielder linked up with the Sydney’s front three expertly, who were just too good for the Glory back four to contain.
Ante Juric’s front four have been too much to handle just in time for finals football, scoring 17 goals from their last seven matches.
