Westfield Matildas in action: Westfield W-League Round 13 wrap

A number of Westfield Matildas took centre stage in Round 13 of the Westfield W-League, with many amongst the goals in a thrilling weekend’s action.

Here’s a wrap of how some of Australia’s best performed over the weekend.

CHLOE LOGARZO

Sydney FC held on for a vital 2-1 win against Victory on Australia, thanks in part to a wonder strike by Logarzo.

A Princess Ibini cutback found the feet of the Sky Blues midfielder, whose first time right-footed strike found the top right hand corner.

The stunning goal gave Sydney FC a two-goal lead at the break and proved to be the winner at AAMI Park.

SAM KERR

The newly-crowned Young Australian of the Year was in fine form as usual, scoring a brace in Glory’s narrow 4-3 defeat to Western Sydney Wanderers.

Kerr struck with her first of the night when she was played over the top by Nicola Bolger, placing a smart finish around the Wanderers keeper.

She then added a second just past the hour mark after teaming with substitute Marianna Tabain to take her season tally to 13 goals from just nine games.

EMILY VAN EGMOND

The Jets sealed their finals berth with a 5-1 demolition of Canberra, with the Westfield Matildas midfielder a huge reason behind their success.

Van Egmond bagged a brace at McKellar Park with two superb finishes, to seal just the Jets' second finals appearance in the Westfield W-League’s history.

HAYLEY RASO

The versatile Raso sent Roar on their way to a crucial 4-2 win over Adelaide with the opening goal at Marden Sports Complex.

Her goal coming on 20 minutes when she exchanged passes with Allira Toby before clinically finishing past keeper Sarah Willacy.

Raso then finished the match at right-back as Roar held on for the win which ensures they have one hand on the Westfield W-League Premiership.

EMILY GIELNIK

Gielnik put the icing on Roar’s second half comeback with a classy finish for the final goal of the match

The Westfield Matildas attacker was played through on goal and showed her quality by lobbing the advancing Reds keeper.
