Westfield Matildas in action: Westfield W-League Round 8 wrap

It was another massive round in the Westfield W-League, with several Westfield Matildas stars stealing the show with some superb performances in Round 8.

Here’s a wrap of how some of Australia’s best performed over the weekend.

We’re almost out of superlatives for the Perth Glory striker.

Kerr stole the show with a hat-trick inside 10 minutes in Glory’s thrilling 3-3 draw in the top-of-the-table clash with Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday night.

All three were classy finishes from the 24-year-old, who has now shot to the top of the Westfield W-League goalscoring charts.

It’s no surprise Sydney FC’s upturn in form (they’ve now won four in a row), has coincided with some De Vanna brilliance.

The veteran attacker scored twice in the opening half of the Sky Blues 3-0 win over Canberra United, her second an absolute beauty curling past the keeper into the top corner of the net.

While she might not generate as many headlines as some of her Roar teammates, “Polks” had a big role to play in her side’s excellent 2-0 win over champions Melbourne City.

Not only did Polkinghorne engineer a clean sheet in defence, it was her long raking pass over the top for Allira Toby which set up the opening goal at Suncorp Stadium.

Not to be outdone, “Mini” also had a big influence for Roar.

The classy playmaker secured the three points for Mel Andreatta’s side with a crafty second goal which now has Roar sitting atop the Westfield W-League ladder.

Not a bad way for the versatile Foord to mark her return for the Sky Blues.

On the same day she re-signed for the club, Foord came off the bench and was a real threat as Sydney FC moved into the top four with their win over Canberra.
