Westfield Matildas duo in running for NWSL Goal of the Week

Westfield Matildas pair Sam Kerr and Hayley Raso have been nominated for Goal of the Week in the National Women’s Soccer League for their stunning goals over the last weekend.

NWSL WRAP: Raso scores in Portland's crucial win

AUSSIES ABROAD: Kerr's goal saves Chicago

Kerr’s goal came as Chicago Red Stars salvaged a superb 1-1 draw against NSWL leaders North Carolina Courage.

With her side trailing 1-0 with less than 30 minutes to play, Kerr got on the end of Vanessa DiBernardo’s cross to power a header into the corner of the net from just inside the box.

It was the 24-year-old’s 10th goal of the campaign – and 53rd of her NWSL career – to sit just one goal off the top of the golden boot standings, currently held by Portland Thorns' Lindsay Horan.

Meanwhile, Raso was also among the four nominations for her striker in Portland Thorns’ dominant 2-0 win over Orlando Pride.

Having hit the woodwork twice in the first-half, Raso wouldn’t be denied her deserved goal after the break.

She broke through the Pride defence, using her pace and power to hold off Westfield Matildas teammate Alanna Kennedy before producing a composed finish from the edge of the box.

Utah Royals forward Katie Stengel and Seattle Reign’s Jess Fishlock – who both played in the Westfield W-League last season – are the other two players in the running for the Goal of the Week.
