Westfield Matildas keeper Williams named in Guardian's top 100 players

Goalkeeper Lydia Williams has joined three of her Westfield Matildas teammates to be included in the Guardian’s list of the best 100 female footballers in the world in 2018.

Williams came in at no.59 after places 70 to 41 were released overnight following consultation with an expert panel, including current Arsenal and former Melbourne City women’s coach Joe Montemurro.

The experienced shot-stopper joins fellow Westfield Matildas Alanna Kennedy (99), Emily van Egmond (98) and Elise Kellond-Knight (76) who were announced on Wednesday.

Williams has enjoyed another hugely successful year for both club and country.

The 30-year-old helped Melbourne City secure a third-straight Westfield W-League crown earlier this year, while she was also a key member of Seattle Reign’s NWSL outfit.
