Westfield Matildas star claims award in USA

Westfield Matildas attacker Sam Kerr has been rewarded for her rich vein of form in the National Women’s Soccer League in America.

Kerr, who plays for Sky Blue FC, was named the competition’s Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association.

The accolade comes after Kerr scored two goals in two matches in week 18, including one against Lisa De Vanna’s Orlando Pride in a 1-1.

She followed that up on the weekend with a stunning individual goal to open the scoring against Pride again, as Sky Blue FC this time won 2-1.

The 23-year-old has scored in four consecutive NWSL games for Sky Blue FC and has 11 in her last 17 appearances in the competition.

Kerr will have a chance to add to that impressive streak when Sky Blue FC takes on the Portland Thorns in New Jersey this weekend.
