Westfield Matildas star dashes to Houston in the NWSL

Westfield Matildas attacker Kyah Simon has joined National Women’s Soccer League side Houston Dash after her previous club Boston Breakers ceased operations last week.

Following the Breakers’ demise, players from the club were put into a Dispersal Draft to be selected be selected by rival teams.

And 26-year-old Simon was the sixth pick overall in the draft, with the Dash selecting the rights to the Melbourne City star for the 2018 NWSL campaign.

Simon had two separate stints at the Breakers, scoring 19 goals in 53 appearances for the club.

But her double shoulder surgery last year prevented her from matches in 2017.

The Dash missed the NWSL finals last season, finishing eighth, but look to have recruited strongly for the new campaign.

As well as the acquisition of Simon, star US striker Christen Press has also joined the club, while Kristie Mewis, Kealia Ohai and Brazilian import Bruna are also on their books.

The 2018 NWSL season will now feature a nine-team competition, with a 24-game schedule that will see each club play three games against every opponent in the league.
