Westfield Matildas star pens new overseas contract

Westfield Matildas veteran Elise Kellond-Knight has penned a contract extension with Swedish club Hammarby Fotball until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old, who is able to play in midfield or at left back, has impressed since her arrival in April, with Sports Manager Johan Lager om forlængelse labelling her one of the best midfielders in the Swedish Damallsvenskan.

"We are very pleased to have succeeded in extending Elise," Lager om forlængelsen said.

"She has shown that she is one of the best midfielders in Damallsvenskan.”

Kellond-Knight said of the deal: "I am very pleased to have extended Hammarby for the rest of the season.

"Staying was a simple decision ever since we started the discussions last month.

"Time has really flown away and the receiving and support I received, both on and off the plane, has been incomparable with any of my previous clubs.

"It's both exciting and motivating with the knowledge that I'll spend the rest of the year with this and I'm looking forward to getting even more chances to show what I'm wearing in the green-white shirt.”

Kellond-Knight was a free agent having departed German club 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam after two years and had looked to join National Women’s Soccer League club Seattle Reign in March until red tape ended her move.

She has since gone on to make five appearances for Hammarby, four of which have been starts, which was enough to extend her deal until the competition concludes in October.
