Westfield Matildas tickets selling fast for Penrith match

Football fans are being urged to get in quick to secure their tickets for the Westfield Matildas match against Chile in Penrith next month, with ticket sales already passing 10,000 for the clash at Panthers Stadium on 10 November.

The Westfield Matildas return to Australia for two matches against the South Americans in the “Seven Consulting International Series” after their mini-European tour which saw them narrowly defeated by world number four France and earn a creditable one-all draw against England in London.

They will be boosted by the return of a number of key players, including star striker and Ballon d’Or Award nominee Samantha Kerr, Alanna Kennedy, Lydia Williams and Newcastle local Emily van Egmond.

Football Federation Australia (FFA) chief executive David Gallop said he was excited by the prospect of another Matildas sell-out crowd in Penrith.

“The atmosphere at last year’s victory over Brazil in Penrith was amazing, and the opportunity to see the likes of Sam Kerr and Lisa De Vanna in action again is not to be missed.

"Who could ever forget Lisa’s wonder goal in that 2-1 win against the Brazilians.

Lisa De Vanna produced a stunning strike to open the scoring against Brazil.

“The fact that the Westfield Matildas sold out Penrith and went on to register a record crowd in the 3-2 win over Brazil in Newcastle, demonstrates the strong support they have from fans of all ages in Australia, and we’re set for a repeat performance against Chile.

“Ticket sales for the second match at McDonald Jones Stadium on 13 November are well ahead of ticket sales at the same time last year, so a new Matildas attendance record could well be set in Newcastle once again.”

The matches form an important part of the Westfield Matildas’ preparations for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and Gallop added “With fans desperate to see their heroes on home soil ahead of next year’s tournament in France, demand for women’s football has never been greater.

“FFA is currently preparing a bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, how good would it be to have our Westfield Matildas playing the best teams in the world, right here in front of their own adoring fans.”
