Westfield Young Matildas head coach Alen Stajcic has selected a 23-player squad for the upcoming AFC U-19 Women-s Championships (Qualification) which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 29 October to 7 November 2008.

The top two teams of each group and the best third-placed team between the two groups will automatically qualify for the AFC U-19 Women-s Championships 2009.

“Our squad has a great level of depth and experience between them,” said Stajcic.

“We have some fantastic attacking weapons to use for this important qualification round. I feel confident we are in good stead to see our Westfield Young Matildas through to the Championships in 2009.

“All our squad members will also be representing their respective Westfield W-League clubs this season which can only add to the quality of women-s football we see played.”

The Westfield Young Matildas carry plenty of experience into the qualifying round, with the majority of the team having previously been selected at this level and five having represented the Westfield Matildas.

Ashleigh Sykes, Christine Walters, Ella Mastrantonio, Tameka Butt and Elise Kellong-Knight were all part of the successful campaign that just last week saw the Westfield Matildas triumph in the ASEAN Football Federation Women-s Championships in Vietnam.

The Westfield Young Matildas will head to Malaysia over the course of the weekend to begin their preparations ahead of their first match on Wednesday 29 against Chinese Taipei.
