Wigan Athletic added to Arsenal-s miserable season to date, with a late goal to seal a place in the final of the League Cup competition.

While Aussie pair of Qantas Socceroo Josip Skoko (not in the squad) and goalkeeper John Filan (pictured right, remained on the bench) played no part in the win, they will relish the opportunity to be part of an historic first ever major final for the club.

It has been an extraordinary season for the small Lancashire club, who have so far defied all the critics to be riding high in the Premier League and are now just one step away from earning a place in Europe next season, which not even their most ardent supporters would have contemplated.

Jason Roberts late, late goal in extra time at Highbury meant their was no way back for Arsenal, with the tie finishing 2-2 on aggregate, winning through on away goals and a meeting with either of their Lancashire rivals Manchester United or Blackburn Rovers.

Meanwhile Qantas Socceroo hopeful Patrick Kisnorbo gave away the free kick that led to Plymouth Argyle scoring the only goal of their Championship fixture.

Kisnorbo, the acting Leicester City captain, in place of regular captain and fellow Aussie Danny Tiatto, played a full game, as did Australian Under 20 international James Wesolowski, who has made a remarkable recovery from a badly broken leg, suffered in the pre-season.

Leicester, one of the favourites for promotion at the start of the season, are languishing in 22nd place and in danger of relegation to League One.

Meanwhile, former Australian Under 23 international Richard Garcia has helped Colchester United to the final of the Southern Division in the LDV Vans Trophy competition.

Garcia, coming off the back of a double last week that sent his team to the top of the League One table, scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute against Cheltenham. They will meet Swansea in the Southern Division final.
