Goalkeeper Lydia Williams has joined the Westfield Matildas squad in the Netherlands ahead of their upcoming matches against the Dutch national side and France.

Having arrived from Swedish club side Pitea, Williams took some time out to chat with teammate Sally Shipard, before participating in her first training session with the Matildas in nearly two years.

Williams was excited to be back in the international fold after suffering a torn ACL, which prevented her from playing in the green and gold for the past 21 months.

The 25-year-old-s decision to return to Sweden in January preventing her from meeting newly appointed head coach Hesterine De Reus.

This added to her nerves but Williams took comfort from the fact she will learn as much as possible whilst working under Hesterine.

Williams was also looking forward to giving competition to fellow goalkeeper Brianna Davey, who has been in extraordinary form, for the coveted “number one” jersey.

Williams said she plans to return to play in Australia but was non-committal about who she would sign for in the W-League.
