Young Matildas in Group B at AFC U-19 Championships

Australia has drawn traditional rivals Japan as part of Group B for this year’s AFC U-19 Women’s Championships in China.

After Friday’s draw at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, the Young Matildas have been pitted against Japan, Korea Republic and Vietnam.

Japan are the defending champions of the tournament and are chasing a fifth AFC U19 Women’s title.

Host-nation China, DPR Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan make up Group A.

Australia qualified for the final stage of the competition after emerging as group winners during the previous qualifiers.

The top three nations at the tournament will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.
