Foord embracing 'tour' feel to Cup of Nations

Westfield Matildas attacker Caitlin Foord says the Cup of Nations holds special meaning with the varied location of match venues a chance to connect with fans.

Australia meet old foes New Zealand, fellow AFC nation Korea Republic and South American wildcards Argentina in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne respectively.

The action-packed week mirrors the kind of schedule Ante Milicic's side will have to navigate in the group stage of this year's FIFA Women's World Cup and gives the squad a chance to greet a spread of supporters in their final home matches before France 2019.

"It's super exciting," Foord told matildas.footballaustralia.com.au.

"There aren't many opportunities we have to play here and especially this one [is unique], having matches in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

"I think this is the first time we've actually had a bit of a tour here in Australia.

"That's super exciting and I think it's awesome for Australia to be able to come watch us play leading into a big year.

"They're going to be very tough games and very good games."

The Football Ferns are first on the agenda for the Westfield Matildas at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium on Thursday, February 28.

It's then up to Queensland's capital for the first time since 2014 when Korea Republic arrive at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday, March 3.

Argentina, ranked 36th in the world, are Australia's final opponents at AAMI Park on Wednesday, March 6.
