Caitlin Foord signs new deal with Arsenal

Caitlin Foord has signed a new contract with Arsenal, that will see the forward continue her stay at the North London side, joining Australian teammate Steph Catley in signing a new contract.

The forward, who signed for Arsenal in 2020 from Sydney FC, will now remain in Jonas Eidevall's squad after inking a new deal.

This season saw Foord pick up her first piece of silverware with the Gunners, helping Arsenal claim the Conti Cup with a 3-1 win over Chelsea.

The forward has been a standout player for Arsenal this season, scoring 12 goals across all competitions, most notably a double against Lyon in the UWCL group stage, and was nominated for the Gunners' Player of the Season.

Foord talked about the contract renewal, “I couldn’t be happier to extend my stay here at Arsenal,” Foord told arsenal.com.

“I feel like I’m growing and improving being here in this environment so I don’t want to leave that. I want to continue to get better and to help the team – I enjoy going out and training every day and wanting to be better and being surrounded by world-class players. This feels like the right place – the place I want to be.”

The forward missed Arsenal's last game of the season, which saw the Gunners finish the season in third place, and thus qualifying once again for European football.

Arsenal was knocked out of the UEFA Women's Champions League at the semi-final stage, going down 5-4 on aggregate to German side VfL Wolfsburg, a valiant effort given how many players Arsenal has seen sidelined through season-ending injuries.

Head Coach Jonas Eidevall talked about Foord's contract extension and her progress at the club,“Caitlin is an integral part of our team so we’re all delighted by the news that she has signed a new contract."

"She is one of the best forwards in the world and has performed to a consistently high standard for us during my time here, providing some crucial goals and delivering on the biggest stages."

Foord will stay at the Gunners alongside fellow Matildas teammate Steph Catley, after the defender signed a contract extension throughout the week.
