CommBank Matildas set to welcome one millionth fan in Adelaide with sell-out streak set to continue

South Australia’s iconic Adelaide Oval is on the brink of making history as it prepares to welcome the one millionth person to see the CommBank Matildas at home since 2017.

This milestone is set to be reached during the upcoming match against China PR on Friday, 31 May 2024, as Football Australia today announced it is on track for a 13th consecutive home match sell-out for the 53,500-capacity stadium.

The sell-out streak, dating back to FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ Send-Off Match on 14 July 2023, highlights the unprecedented support for the CommBank Matildas with record crowds in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne and now Adelaide.

Australia will host current world no. 19 China PR in the two-match ’Til it's Done Farewell series in Adelaide (Friday, 31 May 2024) and Sydney (Tuesday, 3 June 2024).

Following a frenzied Adelaide Pre-sale period that saw 30,000 tickets claimed within four hours, the General Public purchase period, which commenced at 12.00pm ACDT today, saw all currently available sellable tickets exhausted*.

Football Australia CEO, James Johnson, said that with the latest sell-out looming, it is indicative of the continued deepening bond between the team and the Australian public, combined with their high entertainment value.

“We are thrilled to witness the unprecedented demand for tickets to our national teams’ matches, a testament to the growing popularity and support for football in Australia.

“The CommBank Matildas’ remarkable journey has captured the hearts of fans nationwide, leading to a series of capacity matches and a significant milestone as we approach the one millionth spectator at home since 2017 in Adelaide on 31 May as we head towards a 13th consecutive CommBank Matildas’ sell-out.

“This surge in ticket sales not only showcases the love for the game but also contributes to the financial health of the sport where match day revenue is now a significant revenue stream at Football Australia, enabling us to invest further in the game’s development.

“We are confident that the upcoming matches for both the CommBank Matildas and the Subway Socceroos will continue to draw full stadiums, reaffirming the strong connection between our teams and their supporters,” concluded Johnson.

Following news of the available sellable tickets selling-out, South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said, "We're thrilled but not surprised to see tickets for the CommBank Matildas match selling so quickly.

“They really are the hottest ticket in town, and South Australians deserve their chance to see our national team.

“This is also a great opportunity to attract more visitors to our state at a time of year when our major event calendar is traditionally quieter.”
