The weekend kicks off with Chloe Logarzo’s Western United hosting top-of-the-table Perth Glory on Friday, 5pm AEDT. Western United will be hoping that three points can bring them back to the top six, while a win for the visitors will bring them three points clear on top of the table. The Glory won their first meeting this season 2-0 but with a new coach, and playing at home, Western United will back themselves against the league leaders.

Sydney FC will host Brisbane Roar on Friday, 7pm AEDT. Jada Whyman and Cortnee Vine will be hoping to bounce back after failing to convert their chances against the Glory and their goalkeeper Morgan Aquino last week. Meanwhile, Tameka Yallop and her side are still searching for their first three points under new coach Alex Smith.

On Saturday, 12.45pm AEDT, the Wellington Phoenix will host Newcastle Jets. The Jets are flying high after their 4-2 victory over Western United last week but will be without the services of Emily van Egmond, who has finished her four-game guest spell at the club. The Phoenix will be hoping that the boost of the home crowd is enough to bounce back after last week’s loss against Adelaide United.

Saturday, 5pm AEDT sees the traditional Christmas Melbourne Derby as Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory face off. Victory comes into the game in fine form, having dispatched Canberra United last week, whereas City will need to put in a better performance than they did against the Mariners last time out. Lydia Williams and Elise Kellond-Knight are expected to start for Victory, while Emily Gielnik is still out injured. Holly McNamara will continue her recovery from an ACL tear with City.

Canberra United will have to overcome the challenge of being without first-choice goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln as they take on the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, 5pm AEDT. Lincoln is suspended after being sent off last week for a denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity. The Mariners have performed above expectations this season and will hope to give their fans a Christmas present with three points. Kyah Simon has been named in the extended squad but has not yet appeared on matchday.

Finally, the Western Sydney Wanderers will host Adelaide United on Saturday, 6pm AEDT. Adelaide will be full of confidence off the back of their first win of the season last time out. However, Robbie Hooker’s side – featuring a red-hot Sophie Harding, who has scored six goals in the last four games – will back themselves in front of their home crowd.
