The Central Coast Mariners held Melbourne City to a 1-1 draw on Friday night. Rola Badawiya put the Mariners in front early in the second half but New Zealand international Rebekah Stott took the game into her own hands in the second, a wonderful strike from outside the penalty area earning her side a point. The result briefly put City back on top of the table but they were later overtaken again by Perth Glory.

Holly McNamara remains out injured for City, while Kyah Simon still was not able to make the bench for the Mariners.

Lydia Williams kept her third clean sheet of the season for Melbourne Victory as they defeated Canberra United 2-0. The game was dominated from start to finish by the home side who wracked up 25 shots to 3, and 62% possession. American McKenzie Weinert scored in the first half before Canberra goalkeeper and Young Matilda Chloe Lincoln was sent off early in the second for a denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity. When Kurea Okino scored her third goal in three games soon after it was merely a reward for Victory’s pressure.

Canberra’s Vesna Milivojevic survived a scare last week and was deemed fit to play, but was not able to meaningfully impact proceedings. Elise Kellond-Knight played the full match for Victory and impressed in midfield. Emily Gielnik was not fit enough to make the bench for Victory, but coach Jeff Hopkins remarked that she is not too far away from her return.

Adelaide United came from behind to secure their first win of the season, overcoming the Wellington Phoenix 2-1. Emma Main gave the Phoenix the lead in the first half before goals to Emily Condon and Nanako Sasaki sent the home fans into raptures. The Phoenix had plenty of opportunities in the first half, but were not able to make them count – and in football, finding the back of the net is the most important task of all.

Emily van Egmond ended her four-game guest spell in style, scoring one and assisting another as her Newcastle Jets side overcame Chloe Logarzo’s Western United 4-2. A goal to Lauren Allan meant that the Jets led 1-0 at half-time but the game sprung into life after the break.

Logarzo hammered home a penalty won by Hannah Keane after the break to make it 1-1. Newcastle answered through van Egmond, finishing a cross from Allan with aplomb. Then, a stunner from Stacey Papadopoulos on her birthday made it 2-2, and it was anyone’s game.

Enter Sarina Bolden. After a wonderful ball from van Egmond, Bolden scored with a sumptuous chip over the goalkeeper, and Allan’s second goal to make it 4 sealed the victory for the Jets. It meant that Newcastle sent their hometown hero off with style, and will hope to continue their momentum after her departure from the league.

Speedster Sophie Harding made it six goals in four games as the Western Sydney Wanderers came from behind to draw with Brisbane Roar. American striker Mia Corbin opened the scoring in the first half to give the home side the lead before Harding’s second-half equaliser meant that the teams shared the points.

Tameka Yallop played the full 90 minutes for the Roar and picked up an assist for Corbin’s goal.

The late show in Perth saw the first scoreless draw of the season, the Glory reclaiming their place on top of the ladder by holding out a rampant Sydney FC. Morgan Aquino made nine saves for Perth as the home side clung on against the defending champions.

Cortnee Vine came off the bench at half-time for Sydney and made a positive impact but was unable to score the decisive goal this week. Jada Whyman was in goals for the Sky Blues and will be satisfied with the clean sheet.
