Matildas at Home: Sydney FC back on Vine Time as Adelaide secure finals at last

The A-League Women is entering its final few regular season games and the Commonwealth Bank Matildas are once again making headlines.

Subsribe to Win Thin Banner

Melbourne Victory snatched a point in the nation's capital, earning a 2-2 draw with Canberra United midweek.

The team in green has been in a bit of a purple patch and looked to continue on its merry way when Chelsee Washington nabbed the opener.

Washington, Ash Sykes and Michelle Heyman had some neat interplay in a narrow corridor before Heyman finished truly to double the lead.

Victory's second-half come back almost began with a converted Maja Markovski penalty but Chloe Lincoln made a big save.

The actual comeback included all of their Commonwealth Bank Matildas with Kyra Cooney-Cross laying off the ball to Courtney Nevin. Her left-footed cross in, found the head of Alex Chidiac who scored her first Victory goal.

Nevin was once again important, this time from a corner. Her set piece found Tiff Eliadis who headed home the equaliser.

Katrina Gorry's Brisbane Roar earned a win on the road when they defeated Melbourne City 1-0. City looked a little sparse up forward with no Hannah Wilkinson or Holly McNamara

Mariel Hecher scored the lone goal of the game for the Roar, outstretching her leg to get on the end of Shea Connors' cross.

Wini Heatley and Emma Checker as part of the Melbourne defence tightened things up and were able to turn the tide. In the final stage of the game, City attacked ferociously putting Jamilla Rankin and the Roar backline under all sorts of pressure.

Checker was particularly dangerous, coming close on two occasions, hitting the woodwork with one of her efforts but City couldn't find the back of the net.

It was a soggy Canberra afternoon with Vicky Linton's side back in action. But the team was on fire with a 3-0 win over the Newcastle Jets.

A goal to Allira Toby and a brace for Michelle Heyman meant Canberra continues to finish the season strongly despite not being in finals contention.

For the first time in W-League/A-League Women history, Adelaide United will be playing finals following their 3-0 win over Melbourne Victory.

Fiona Worts tightened her grip on the golden boot with a hat trick. With assists from Chelsie Dawber, Emily Hodgson, and Dylan Holmes, Adrian Stenta's side were able to boss a Victory team playing its seventh game in 23 days.

Nevin and Cooney-Cross' set pieces gave Victory an attacking outlet but the Reds were too strong.

With severe rain and flooding across New South Wales and Queensland a few matches have had to be postponed, leaving Sydney FC's win over Perth Glory as the final match of the weekend.

The Sky Blues are now only one step away from confirming the premier's plater after their 3-1 victory.

Nat Tobin got things started with a clever finish off a Mackenzie Hawkesby corner.

Sydney's Commonwealth Bank Matildas were in the thick of it with Remy Siemsen creating chances. But it was Cortnee Vine who ended up on the scoresheet with two goals; one a one-on-one finish against Courtney Newbon, the other with the set up from Princess Ibini.

Lisa De Vanna teed up Aideen Keane to peg one back for the visitors; Charlie Rule, Jada Whyman, and the Sydney defence were solid otherwise.

With only nine games remaining before finals, it's set to be another big week in the A-League Women.
