It may have been an American who grabbed the headlines but the Westfield Matildas contingent certainly played their part as well.
Sydney recovered from the disappointment of losing last year’s Westfield W-League Grand Final to run out 4-2 winners over Perth Glory in the 2019 decider.

Savannah McCaskill’s double ultimately separated the teams but strikes to Australian internationals Chloe Logarzo and Sam Kerr played key roles in the outcome of the match.
Down 1-0, Kerr won and dispatched a penalty for Perth to give them a way back into the match.
Logarzo too was to come up trumps in a key moment, pulling off a wonder strike at 3-2 to all but ensure the trophy would be staying in the Harbour City.
Speaking to w-league.com.au post-match, Logarzo said the Sky Blues put in a complete performance.
“It’s nice to be able to come away with the win in front of our friends and family,” she said.
“I think it’s the best game we’ve played this season, I think it was really nice for the girls to finally come together, especially in a Grand Final.
“They’ve got the likes of Sam and [Rachel] Hill, they’re incredible players and we were able to contain them this game and I think we were clinical in our front third.”
The 24-year old suffered a scare late in the match after appearing to roll her ankle in a challenge.
While not 100 per cent sure about the extent of any possible injury, Logarzo said she was looking forward to the upcoming internationals with the Westfield Matildas as well as debuting for new NWSL club Washington Spirit.
“I gave myself a little bit of a shock I think, it’s a little bit of pain so we’ll get the scan and see how we go,” Logarzo revealed.
“I’m excited to get over to Washington but obviously the World Cup is my main goal and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Teammate Alanna Kennedy took time to praise the entire Westfield Matildas contingent and said she couldn’t wait to get out in front of home fans when the Cup Of Nations kicks off in late February.
“Obviously it’s good to have confidence going into it [Cup of Nations],” Kennedy said.
“A lot of Matildas have stepped up this season. Obviously Sam, Caitlin’s [Foord] had a great season, Emily Gielnik.
“We’ve had a lot of Matildas in form so it’s really exciting for us as a team and I’m really looking forward to those games coming up, obviously on home soil and back here so we’re hoping to have lots of fans here to get behind us.”
